A COMMUTER who fell from a station platform was rescued from under a train by the driver at Albany Park this morning.
The 41-year-old man who was trapped underneath the front carriage of a Charing Cross train, escaped with minor injuries.
But a spokesman for Southeastern said he hoped there would not be any more delays.
Emergency services were called the incident at 6am and found the driver had already helped the man - who was covered in grease, but not seriously injured - climb from under the train and back onto the platform.
It is thought the driver and the man were treated for shock.
The 5.34am train the Charing Cross via Sidcup was delayed by 50 minutes, while a relief driver was found for the train.

This whole incident is not funny, it meant my parents who were on the platform getting the train to the airport had to come back home and get me out of bed for a lift and now i'm shattered!! Amazed he was not electrocuted.

Just goes to show why there is a yellow line there!! Southeastern are lucky it was not somewhere like Cannon Street where the lines have worn away or they would probably be getting sued!

Joke as much as you like, he didn't fall he JUMPED and the driver was taken to hospital with shock.
The guy tried to kill himself. He must have been desperate, and before you ask I was there, the driver was in a bad way, not surprised after seeing that..

Couldn't agree more. He tried to kill himself and IMO has **** up that drivers life, the driver was in a bad way, and the geezer just had oily clothes and should be sectioned, kin nutter...

Why would the driver be in a bad way? "One-unders" as they are called are common occurences in the train industry and the driver was not doing anything to cause the accident so why should he / she be woried? It's all in a day's work really and there is no need for drivers to start feeling guilty for the mental state of what in effect isn't even a passenger.

Definitely suicide attempt, when the man got back on the platform he was shouting at some bloke that he had tried to kill himself and he wanted to die...his wife turned up later and she slapped him round the face, apparently he has a few problems at the moment to say the least.

I was standing 10 feet from the man who [bold]jumped[/bold] infront of the train.
i was talking to him whislt he was under the train. The most disturbing part of this was that when he got up from under the train he shout to his friend 'i am still here' i feel sorry for the driver and other passengerswho witnessed this act.

This story and its comments page are a true representation of just how bad this site is becoming. I wish there was a way of disabling these comments pages.
I counted 7 messages in this page which were actually seriously talking about the story. The other 29 are just taking the mickey and making comments about peoples spelling. Could you all just give it a rest now as its becoming tiresome.
This isn't a chat room and I wonder how any of you came to that conclusion.
I thought residents of this area would be a little more mature than this.
I don't care if the guy was pushed, jumped, or slipped, or even dropped by a passing eagle. At last, someone with a little sense. Was there yesterday and it was not something to be laughed at. It must have affected quite a few people and it was shocking to see someone try and take their own life. Obviously I hope the man is getting the correct help and is not just let back out to try it again at some point. He obviously is/was not mentally sound. I hope the driver is ok too.

Let me tell you, most drivers who do have a one-under never forget it and the reasoon that they feel guilty is because there is nothing at all they can do to avoid it! For some, they can deal with the first time, but if it happens again they usually have to leave their jobs. As a driver who has killed 2 people who jumped in front of my train I can only agree with Keith. He is clearly the expert. It didn't affect me when I ran someone over and then comforted his wife on the platform whilst seeing his brains splattered across the platform. Nor did it affect me when I ran over and cut into pieces someone who was lying on the track waiting for my train. And then it did affect me. Having my last victims mother ask me whether he was alive when I cut him into pieces at the inquest. His sister crying her eyes out. Shaking with nerves when I stood before the Coroner. All in a days work according to Keith. Wouldn't we all like a life as boring as Keiths?
