FIREFIGHTERS worked through the night tackling a large fire in Lewisham, which they suspect was started deliberately.
Six pumps were called to the blaze in an unoccupied shop and flats in Lewisham High Street at 10.50pm last night.
A spokesman for the fire service said the cause of the fire - which is under investigation - is thought to be arson.
He added that earlier this month the building next door - which is also unoccupied - was damaged in a fire also thought to have been started deliberately.
Lewisham High Street was closed for several hours last night while fire crews fought the blaze which spread over four floors of the building - badly damaging the ground floor shop and flats on three floors.
The road was reopened at about 2.30am today and the last fire crews left the scene at about 4am.

Thank you fireman!

I went past last night and I was the last car they let through, when I drove by they has one of those fire tenders that have the feet on the bottom to staberlise when the wheels are off the ground, a ladder was more or less as high as the building and there were 2 firefighters at the top, there were about 4/5 ambulances, there was also lots of buses all lined up, I have never seen so many, all the drivers looked fed up as they has nowhere to go, all passengers were getting off, to me it seemed well organised.
Well done to all the emergency services, especially the firefighters.

Lewisham should all burn.
vile immigrants have turned a once pleasant area into the stinking festering Crack capital of London.
look around its full of inbred fat arssed black women and feral white hoodie yobs.the hospital is full of sad druggies and the whole place stinks of KFC.
We need to raize it and start again.
