Princes Road: The scene of the fatal collision

POLICE have named the boy who was struck by a bus on his way to school this morning.

Matthew Hobbs was crossing Princes Road, Dartford, with a family member when the accident happened at around 7.26am.

Emergency services were called but the 11-year-old Wilmington Grammar School for Boys pupil died at the scene.

The female bus driver was taken to Darent Valley Hospital suffering from shock.

Princes Road was closed after the incident and reopened around four hours later.

such a great waste of a young life. not saying this driver was driving fast but 90% of bus drivers should not be on the road

Such a sad time and a great loss to our community. Have to agree with the fact that although bus driver may not be at fault, when those buses come off Princes Rd to go along the fast-track towards Dartford, they are not slowing down to turn, they are infact speeding up. The speed at which they travel across Princes Road would mean that no-one would stand a chance.
My thoughts are with Matthew's family and in particular his brother. It is a travesty that a child with such a bright future is taken from us, but take this opportunity as I have to reiterate to your children about the dangers of the road and if it takes 20 minutes to cross safely then so be it. No-one should have to suffer the way this family are at the moment.
God bless you all and may his parents keep the memory of the last time Matthew looked at you and laughed clear in their minds....
RIP Matthew

This is so so sad and my heart goes out to the poor family. I have a son of the same age and it a big worry of mine as they start to get more independant. It's still quite dark at 7.30am. R.I.P darling.

maybe with a tragic loss of another gifted bright star on these roads the gov may try an think that if they made school transport dedicated to school children then they can see that it is common sense that if there was transport it can ease traffic, they can monitor children to an from school an above all it is safe for the children.only the best are chosen 4 a place that is only reserved 4 the most perfect an a gifted boy shall learn live an grow with god right by his side.
rest in peace.
here on earth there is sadness over this loss? however in hevan there is cheer an joy at the birth of an angel only time can heal the pain the memory however will go on till eternity anon!

R.I.P Little man shine on your family. sweet dreams..
also give a thought to the bus driver im sure she never ment to hurt u.
Posted by: simon, erith on 10:20pm Thu 10 Jan 08
why do you always blame the bus driver when you have no idea of the circumstances its the same old story the truth is that most car drivers drive too fast on these roads I believe that this road should have a 20mph limit as should all roads that are heavily built up and esp around schools, but some people just have to put the blame on drivers who at the end of the day are only trying to their job and would be the first to be pulled up for going too fast by the police.

My sympathy goes to the boys family and it is such a terrible tragedy and also to the bus driver who must be going through hell as well.
