VIDEO: Are crime maps welcome in your area?
CRIME maps showing where and how often offences are committed could be seen on the internet from next month.
The Met is currently testing electronic crime mapping software and plans to launch the system in September, after a technical review.
Interactive maps will sit alongside monthly crime statistics published on the Met police website and will provide details of the number, rate and geographical location of defined crime types on a ward, borough and pan-London basis.
A test map can be viewed online at maps.met.police.uk.
By clicking on a borough, you can see the figures for burglary, robbery and vehicle crime and comparison figures from previous years.
According to the map the crime rate in the Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich boroughs is average for London.
And Bexley is below average.
Crime maps have been used in the US - notably in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles - where police departments show incidents at a house-to-house level.
News Shopper went to Burnt Ash Hill in Lee - the scene of the murder of teenager Jimmy Mizen on May 10 - to find out what people think about crime maps.
Watch the video to hear their views.

How about they just hand out leaflets on the street corner letting the thiefs know which area to target as the police are concentrating on the Crime Hot Spots!

Good.
At least the unsightly will move over to another neighbourhood and leave us alone.

How about applying the same principles to the judiciary? Why not have a website that members of the public can log into which lists all of our magistrates and all of our judges. Upon clicking on their name, it would reveal a list by type (ie. burglary, robbery, assault) of the cases that they had been responsible for when someone had been convicted - and the sentence that was handed down. That way we could immediately see where the weak links in the criminal justice system are. We'd know exactly who is releasing the criminals back into our community to commit further offences............
....and exactly who was responsible for the Fear of Crime' in a particular area.
This would have the fantastic added benefit of holding a number of politicians to account, if our experience here in Bromley is anything to go by. You'd be amazed at the number of magistrates that are local councillors - he who speaks with a forked tongue, etc, etc!
What a fantastic idea, if I may say so myself!

How about Judge - Top Trumps?
For each Judge they could have categories such as;
Age
Years in the Job
Salary
Cost to Bribe
Number of community service hours sentenced
Time spent at Lunch
Number of Perversions
Death Sentences Awarded
and
(in)Sanity Level
The kids could play against each other and learn which judges to avoid at the same time.

Cassie and Sisyphus, the most boring people on the planet. They should move from Bromley to Borehamwood, where they could both Google stats forever.

I think that we should be focusing on what will improve the effectiveness of the police - the police already use crime mapping data themselves in a very sophisticated manner, so using it is nothing new to them and will unlikely be of any benefit in reducing crime. We will end up stigmatising areas and the only people to really benefit will be the reorters on newspapers who will be able to whip up emotions and create a mob mentality - and possibly the crafty Estate Agents who will raise prices in an area if it has below average crime.
I think the real thing we need to do is make the judiciary more open and accountable - the Police can target a high crime area time and again, nicking the criminals, only for the courts to fail to hand down any effective deterrent.

What a waste of money, money that could be spent on policing. As has already been said, the police already use crime mapping data themselves in a very sophisticated manner. Use the money elsewhere in policing. Without any computer data or police expertese I can quite easily map the crime areas - Lewisham, Croydon, Southwark........

You really are a bore. Not bullying, not racist, not sexist, just hard facts you may not like.

[italic]Did it ever cross your mind that people really do find you and 'Sis' boring ?[/italic]
did it ever cross your mind that people really do find bullying as unacceptable in adults as they do in children
of course people who resort to trying to bully others usually have no insight into why they feel the need to behave like that, however there are many reasons, obviously as we are complete strangers i don't know why you feel the need but for example -
the bully might have problems with their family, might be bullied themselves, might have no friends and/or feel inadequate so want to make others feel as bad as they do, have low self-esttem and get a feeling of power from bullying, want to look big by joining in with other bulliess, and/or the bully's parents had no parenting skills and never taught their offspring morals and manners

[italic]Not bullying[/italic]
actually your behaviour is well-recognised as bullying

Casssie you just could not be more wrong. Totally wrong about me.
I have read a lot of what you and your 'amigo' Sis post, and whenever you dont like a post you use the bulling, racist, or sexist card. When you cannot get your own way you both winge like spoiled children. How can anyone bully you when you dont know me, and you also choose to read posts.
Perhaps you should practise what you preach, you told someone they haven't the wits to know what ad hom means. Thats bullying by your own standards , is it not.

aw bless, a truly pitiful attempt at the old 'blame the victim' tactic so loved by bullies
[italic]merely calling everyone who disagrees with you[/italic]
the simple point which eludes you with such astonishing success is the difference between disagreeing with someone's viewpoint on an issue and mindless ad hom attacks
[italic]or points out the irrefutable fact that you're boring[/italic]

so you see, or rather if only you could see, while you must presumably think you are incredibly interesting others find [italic]you[/italic] incredibly boring, not to mention incredibly stupid and lacking in the most basic manners :)
however, if we [bold]all[/bold] spent our time telling everyone we thought was boring / stupid / ignorant that they are boring / stupid / ignorant every comment board would simply be full of posts saying 'your boring / stupid / ignorant'...
while i can see that [italic]you[/italic] might find that most interesting and stimulating, to the majority of people over the age of five it would be mindnumbingly boring

Eddie, Beckenham on 7:49pm Sun 17 Aug 08...
you chose to join in with the personal attacks on me, you chose to be rude and insulting to me, even though i hadn't said anything to you or about you...
so i
replied -
cassie, bromley on 4:07am today - giving back what you had chosen to dish out...which i'm
sure you'd agree is only fair :)

[italic]Two wrongs don't make a right.[/italic]
oh you are a pacifist, how curious given your bullyboy behaviour...for those who are not pacifists two wrongs can and very often do make a right, for example self-defence, standing up to bullies, going to war to stop despots etc
[italic]Or do they in your twisted mind.[/italic]
lol - the 'twisted mind' is [bold]obviously[/bold] in the person who did the [italic]first[/italic] wrong, in the person who started it...and that was you dear...
why, anyone would think you are a complete hypocrite who likes dishing it out but can't take it back...
[italic]American Heritage Dictionary...[/italic]
an american pacifist, even more interesting...anyway
, oxford english dictionary - 'practice...usage it should be noted that practice is the spelling for the noun...'
so,- being british - as i said to you i don't practise what i preach i practice what i preach
[italic]Simon Bull in polite terms told you much the same, you are a bore[/italic]
oh well if simon 'i'm not putting up with what i insist eveyone else puts up with' bull said it that absolutely proves it's true doesn't it - well it does to the sycophants :)
[italic]At least on this story you arn't messing up his good cause.[/italic]
you mean like the bullies mess up other boards when the story is about someone trying to do good, but - as they don't have simon's power to remove posts - unlike him they just have to put up with it?
[italic]Bored on night shift are you ?[/italic]
feeling so inadequate you feel the need to try to bully others are you?

I couldnt Agree with you more JayJay. they are trying to make improvments & move a step forward but fear like yourself that they are simply going to be taking 2 steps back if they were to implement this Idea & acutally launch it in September, bad idea, they need to go back to the drawing board & think of something else!

We read time and again about the guidelines being ignored. Time to take the discresion out of their hands and make the sentences mandatory. Do the crime, do the time.

Cassie Answer me this Question... if magistrates/judges [italic]italic[/italic] [bold]bold[/bold] as it were" we faced with a case where a drink driver was behind the wheel of a car & knocked over a young child & killed them out right! Do you think that because of guidelines the magistrate/judge should be lenient or sympathetic to that driver for taking the life of that child because he/she chose to drink drive?
There are judges out there that will throw the book at the person responsible! & Judges who just decide to give the person responsible for that crime a slap on the wrist & ill meet ya in the pub for a pint later to say thanks for the light sentence! **** to the guidelines! I say only employ the Judges who have the balls to throw the book at the Criminals of our Society! Over crowded prisons? Then build more! Simple!

not too sure about mandatory same-for-every-case, i feel that as a principle of justice each case [italic]should[/italic] be treated individually - perhaps we need [bold]appropriate[/bold] minimums
i'd agree that far too much leniency is shown to repeat, and violent, offenders
really the whole sentencing and prison regimes need a complete overhaul

[italic]...Do you think that because of guidelines the magistrate/judge should be lenient or sympathetic to that driver for taking the life of that child because he/she chose to drink drive?...[/italic]
no but there are many factors which have to be, or should be, taken into account, eg how much over the legal limit, culpability etc
i see on the sentencing guidelines council website they've just issued their definitive guidelines re causing death by driving, it includes drink-driving, careless driving etc, effective 4 august
i've had a v v quick look, haven't read it properly but there are lots of ins and outs mags/judges are supposed to consider when working out the sentence, the link to those new guidelines is on this page
www.sentencing-guide
lines.gov.uk/

yes! the rank incompetence of this government is shocking and obviously dangerous for society, why they are not being held to account for this i don't know

[italic]Get some treatment...[/italic]
[italic]you[/italic] are the one needing treatment... and as i'm [italic]sooooo[/italic] kind i'll try to help you see that..
first we'll identify some examples of your behaviour and then consider the cause(s)
[bold]behaviour[/bold]
- bullies project their own inadequacies onto others, particularly via name-calling
- bullies try to publicly put others down
- bullies try hard to boost their ego by undermining others
- bullies make irrational accusations and constantly repeat them
- bullies run 'witch-hunts' against those they perceive as being happy and/or more successful and/or more intelligent
- bullies feel a strong desire to hurt / upset others
[bold]causes[/bold]
- deep-seated feelings of insecurity and/or inadequacy
- low self-esteem and jealousy
- inability to accept or address personal shortcomings
- feelings of utter helplessness / lack of control
- very low iq
- abnormal mental / emotional development eg constant siege mentality, lacking empathy
the good news is that research shows that some bullies [italic]can[/italic] overcome their crippling mental-health problems...good luck :)

cassie, in her own words: [quote]- deep-seated feelings of insecurity and/or inadequacy
- low self-esteem and jealousy
- inability to accept or address personal shortcomings
- feelings of utter helplessness / lack of control
- very low iq
- abnormal mental / emotional development eg constant siege mentality, lacking empathy[/quote]
cassie, in everyone else's words: [quote]dull & boring[/quote]

[quote]are writ large above for all to see, as is that i am merely replying to your posts[/quote] I blame Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Eleven years of New Labour and this is the result. Talk about the dumbing down of a nation!

'kate' as shown by her behaviour
- projecting own inadequacies onto others, particularly via name-calling
- trying to publicly put others down
- trying hard to boost ego by undermining others
- making irrational accusations and constantly repeating them
- running a 'witch-hunt' against someone perceived as being happy and/or more successful and/or more intelligent
- feeling a strong desire to hurt / upset others
'kate' in everyone else's words: sad bully

err...what do you blame them for and why?
not saying there isn't much to blame them for, not least the 'anti-social' behaviour blighting communities
and indeed comment boards :)

It's pretty obvious to all bar an idiot that the post left by 'Rattler' is referring to your inability to communicate in English. Doh!

Indeed that was exactly the point I was making, which I would think was pretty obvious.
However, what is now more obvious is that 'cassie' and 'Kate' are indeed the same person. Give it up, we're really not interested.

lol...i appreciate you are in denial but the truth is documented in the posts above for everyone to see -
you started it with your irrational, bullying name-calling and you are the one keeping on and on and on -
which just makes you look more and more desperate and in need of help, professional help

goodness you are thick aren't you, typical thicko unthinkingly accepting unfounded assumptions and believing them as fact...
so, doh! what exactly have blair & co got to do with my ability to communicate in english?
i wouldn't be at all surprised if they have everything to do with your appalling manners and inability to think logically though :)

[italic]Indeed that was exactly the point I was making, which I would think was pretty obvious[/italic]
not obvious to those with the capacity to think....instead of just believing unfounded assumptions they've made up in their head and repeating them as fact...
so my question again -

Are you for real? Surely you cannot be so daft as to not understand this? If so, it is proof positive that 11 years of New Lie-bour have wrecked the education system.
And 'cassie/kate', looking at your previous posts, I'd say that you are pretty ill - your posts clearly reveal this. There's not a rational, well-thought out argument amonst them. All you do is respond to people's posts by saying exactly the same thing about them. Hardly the sign of a great mind! Anyway, I've got a life to lead, so I'll leave you to argue amongst your many personalities.......

what [italic]are[/italic] you on about?
why don't you just answer the question as you claim the answer is soooo obvious?
what exactly do you believe '11 years of new labour" has to do with my education?
